What is free flow distillate?
Free-flow CBD distillate refers to a form of CBD distillate (a refined, concentrated extract derived from hemp or cannabis plants) that remains liquid at room temperature. This property makes it easier to handle, measure, and incorporate into products without additional heating or processing.
Characteristics of Free Flow Distillate
Consistency:
- Free-flow CBD distillate has a liquid or semi-liquid consistency, unlike traditional distillates, which are often thick or solid (cyrstalized) at room temperature.
Ease of Use:
- Because it doesn’t require heating to flow, it simplifies production processes for manufacturers creating CBD products such as tinctures, topicals, or edibles.
- Ideal for automated systems and large-scale production.
Applications:
- Commonly used in:
- Tinctures: Can be blended with carrier oils without extra steps.
- Edibles: Easily mixes into recipes or formulations.
- Vapes: Free-flowing nature facilitates cartridge filling.
- Topicals: Smoothly integrates with creams, lotions, or balms.
CanniLabs Free-Flow vs Other Free-Flow

Non-crystalized distillate is specially derived from hemp plant and precisely blended with minor cannabinoids. | Non-crystalizing characteristics are often achieved with terpenes, thinning agents, fillers and carrier oils. |
How CanniLabs Makes Free-Flow Distillate
To make the free flowing distillate, the different cannabinoids are separated into their own concentrates (typically a distillate) through molecular distillation and liquid chromatography, a refining process that removes all the impurities, and is far beyond what we have to do for the “regular” full spectrum distillate. Rather than using a thinning agent, the different distillates are mixed in such proportions that they won’t crystallize together.
Consider a concentrated sugar solution- it will eventually crystalize. So will a concentrated salt solution. Now, if you mix the salt and sugar solutions together, they won’t turn into a sugar/salt crystal as the molecular structures are fundamentally different- causing them to have distinct crystallization patterns. The same idea applies for cannabinoids. We can mix cannabinoids with fundamentally different molecular structures so that they won’t crystallize together.
CanniLabs Free-Flow Composition
Free flow distillate contains 85-90% cannabinoids, while only having 50% CBD. Free flow is unlike regular full spectrum or broad spectrum CBD distillate which contains 85-90% CBD. In free-flow, the remaining 30-40% of the distillate is made up of what are considered “minor” cannabinoids such as CBG, CBN, CBC, CBT, etc…
